Yorwaste enhances vehicle safety and protects drivers with in-cab cameras

The systems also feature a fifth in-cab camera, the footage from which can used as evidence in the event of any type of incident or complaint involving the driver and/or vehicle.

Stuart Parsons, Fleet Operations Manager, Yorwaste said:

“We wanted an enhanced system that would protect our drivers from unwarranted allegations of poor driving or dangerous behaviour. The in-cab camera is a key part of this, and provides irrefutable evidence in the event of any type of allegation.”

The camera systems have already been put to use in a number of cases where Yorwaste drivers have faced allegations of driving offences or incidents. Stuart continued:

“In one case, a driver was alleged to have run a red light, when in fact the camera footage clearly showed that the lights were in fact green when the vehicle passed through the junction. In another case, a member of the public alleged that our driver had been driving aggressively, when the footage showed that this was not the case. In both instances the camera footage provided irrefutable evidence to support our driver and the allegations were not upheld.”

Yorwaste selected the Fleetclear (formerly ISS) RXLite camera system, which records footage from four external cameras and one in-cab camera. Stuart Parsons added:

“We selected the Fleetclear system based on the quality of the product and the standard of after sales support. We have been very pleased with both. The footage is extremely clear and the system is reliable and easy to use.”
