LIVE camera systems reduce third party insurance claims in Cumbria

The RXLite LIVE systems from Innovative Safety Systems Ltd (ISS) are fitted to 33 vehicles, comprising 26t & 32t skip and hook lift vehicles, trailers and curtain sider vehicles, which are used to collect bulky waste, baled waste or pallets. The fleet also collects skips and waste from the county’s 14 Household Waste and Recycling Centres (HWRCs).

Barrie Carruthers, Transport Manager, Cumbria Waste Recycling: “Whether a vehicle is visiting a customer’s premises or collecting from a HWRC we can view the collection in progress. If there are any problems, such as if a driver can’t get access or a skip is blocked in, we can clearly see what is happening, take pictures for our records and deal with the issue immediately.”

Cumbria Waste Recycling is part of Cumbria Waste Group, which was established by Cumbria County Council over 25 years ago and is the largest waste management contractor in the county with over 5,000 commercial customers. ISS has also equipped 20 compaction refuse vehicles with the RXLite LIVE camera systems.

Barrie continued: “We are finding that drivers are reporting any incidents more readily and if we do receive complaints of damage we can check the footage and determine quickly if we are at fault. As a result of having the cameras fitted we have been able to prevent a number of insurance claims that would otherwise have been in dispute.”

The RXLite system from ISS uses premium grade components to minimise any risk of failure, with wide angle HD cameras and in-cab monitor to provide perfect clarity ensuring that all essential information is captured. To date RXLite has incurred zero hard drive failures and provided 100% reliability.

Barrie added: “We are really happy with the systems from ISS and the support is second to none. The quality of footage is excellent – we can see every detail – and the camera technology is very reliable. We’ve already transferred some of the cameras over to new replacement vehicles and they are operating really well.”
