Lili Waste has an impressive fleet of 5 Star DVS (Direct Vision Standard) rated vehicles, which are on a five-year replacement programme.  The fleet features multiple RCV vehicles ranging from 26t to 32t, Hiab Crane and pick ups. The RCV fleet is dominated by Mercedes Econic refuse trucks, with additional vehicles that are a combination of DAF, VOLVO and Scania chassis fitted with MOL, Geesink and Hillend Big bite junior bodies.

John Hopkins, Fleet & Depot Manager, Lili Waste said:

“We first came across Fleetclear in 2017 when we were considering fitting four-way camera systems to our vehicles. Most of our drivers are lone workers so there are important safety issues to consider, and we wanted peace of mind.

“At the time we were wide open to complaints and false insurance claims about damage apparently caused by our vehicles. It seemed a bit big brother at the time and some of our drivers were hesitant about us adopting the technology, but they soon changed their minds.

“Once the cameras were fitted, we were able to close down 9 out of 10 of the complaints immediately and exonerate our drivers from any blame.”

“The cameras are also proven to be very useful if we are having problems accessing a customer’s bins. We can now prove that we’ve attempted to carry out a collection and demonstrate to the customer with photographs or video footage, any obstructions or access issues.”

The entire Lili Waste fleet is now installed with the Fleetclear DVR camera system, which not only captures and records footage from 360 degrees around the vehicle but also provides live tracking.

John added:

“From a health and safety point of view we’ve also been able to record incidents and use the footage as a training tool for drivers and crew members to enhance best practice and reduce the risk of any accidents.”

Staying Connected

Recently Lili Waste connected their vehicle safety technology, CANBus and tracking via Fleetclear’s own software platform – Fleetclear Connect.

The system combines hardware with advanced data analysis and processing techniques, and a comprehensive suite of compliance and reporting tools. It brings together real-time tracking and telematics data including fuel, carbon, and electric vehicle analysis, with operational safety technology, driver behaviour and compliance monitoring.  Event reconstruction with web sharing and live video integration are all part of the package.

John remarked: “A great feature of the system is the ability to search and share specific footage or vehicle activity quickly. We can drill down to a specific day, time or street and access the footage from any of our vehicles that were in the area within minutes.  This is invaluable if we need to investigate an incident, compliant or collection issue and saves a huge amount of time. Remote health checks of the camera systems also means that we know they are always working.”

Fleetclear provides full training and support to customers who use the platform, which is easy to use and customisable depending on the fleet operation.

John commented: “We have a dashboard where we can access everything – CANbus, camera footage, vehicle tracking, fuel usage, as well as driver behaviour such as harsh braking or speeding alerts. It’s been a real breakthrough for us, and we haven’t even accessed all the features yet.”
