Kirklees Council invests in vehicle safety technology

The 21 new vehicles are being fitted with LIVE DVR camera systems from Fleetclear (formerly ISS), providing 360° vision around each vehicle and significantly reducing its blind spots. Each vehicle has four external cameras fitted, one at the front, one at the rear and one on each side, as well as an in-cab camera for the driver. The system also includes a live streaming facility and remote Wi-Fi download capability, which enables real-time monitoring and remote footage download at the depot, without the need to remove any hardware from the vehicles.
Neil Armitage, Streetscene Manager, Kirklees Council said:
“We are committed to developing our vehicle safety and specification. The new vehicles are probably some of the most comprehensively safety equipped vehicles in our fleet. The live streaming facility has been particularly well received as it enables us to manage operations more effectively.”
The vehicles are also fitted with Cyclear™ cyclist warning display and Reaclear reversing aids. Cyclear is an LED cyclist warning device, which alerts cyclists when a vehicle is about to turn left.
Neil Armitage continued:
“We have high volumes of cyclists in Kirklees and reducing the risk of cycling accidents is important to us. Both pieces of equipment are now standard specification for all our new vehicles.”
