Fleetclear - DCW - case study

The family-run firm continues to lead the industry in offering innovative, sustainable waste collection and recycling to its customers across Devon, Cornwall, and Somerset. Recently, DCW even started to manufacture its own range of recycled furniture products including plastic outdoor furniture, bollards and timber garden furniture from waste plastic.

Camera systems essential for driver exoneration

DCW first began using camera systems from ISS (now Fleetclear) in 2011 and have continued to be an advocate for vehicle camera systems since. The camera systems provide a 360° view of the vehicle surroundings, creating a safe working environment and enabling drivers to easily protect themselves against false claims. With thousands of customers across the South West, it is not uncommon for DCW to deal with occasional complaints about their drivers, especially those working on the kerbside rounds.

Jason Hennings, Transport Manager, DCW said:

“We’ve probably already saved the cost of the cameras already.”
“We’ve probably already saved the cost of the cameras already.”

A DCW driver was once accused of reversing over someone’s vehicle and causing £5000 worth of damage. Prior to having the cameras fitted, it would have been very difficult for DCW to disprove such a claim. However, a quick review of the camera footage was able to clearly show that the driver had not gone near the alleged property or car in question.

Jason continued:

“You’re very much in the frame when something like that is alleged and it hadn’t been working for weeks!”
“I can now pull up camera systems on any vehicle and look back over two weeks and it’s very useful. We’ve also been able to support colleagues in the police with sharing footage from the cameras. I’m not against a one size fits all approach.”
“I think that they’re good enough for me to feed into training plans.”

Making the move to Fleetclear Connect

DCW has recently taken the decision to move to Fleetclear Connect, Fleetclear’s fleet management platform. The move to the new system means DCW will be able to manage all aspects of fleet management including vehicle monitoring, compliance, driver behaviour and reporting from one system.

Jason commented:

“Fleetclear are very easy to deal with, and they have been very quick to respond to any requests.”

Gavin Thoday, Founder and CEO, Fleetclear said:

“We are very much looking forward to developing our partnership with DCW as they move to Fleetclear Connect. Both companies have a shared commitment to innovation and sustainability, and we are excited to support DCW as they continue to grow their recycling and waste business.”
